Nowadays, many homes have WiFi Routers. Yes, they are extremely convenient. All that information coming in and going out from the internet provides many conveniences. There are drawbacks, however. One of the drawbacks is WiFi router radiation. When your WiFi router conveniently passes this piece and that piece of data back and forth, EMFs are also transmitted. Below we will discuss 8 ways to better protect ourselves and our families from WiFi router radiation.
1 – Switch to a Hardwired Ethernet Connection
Switching to a hardwired ethernet connection is really an obvious solution. The benefits of making the switch are less EMF radiation exposure in your home, a faster internet connection, a more reliable internet connection, and a more secure internet connection. 2 – Adjust Your Router’s WiFi Transmit Power Percentage
Okay, I get it, while the first solution may really be the most effective and obvious way to reduce the amount of WiFi router radiation in your home, your family will probably flip out and revolt. Perhaps they will all chant “We want Wifi! We want Wifi!” until your ears begin to ring. No doubt, for years to come, every time there is a family get together, your family will bring up the funny story of that one time, years ago, when you wanted to transition from wireless to a wired internet connection.
So what then? Well, you can adjust your WiFi router’s transmit power to a lower percentage. Most WiFi routers have a default setting of 100%. This is intended to service the entire home and most likely a portion of your front and backyard as well. By changing this to a lower percentage, your WiFi coverage will decrease to a smaller area. You may not be able to telecommute poolside anymore; however, the overall WiFi router radiation level should also decrease.
3 – Schedule the Times Your WiFi Router Is on and Off
Along the same lines as above, most routers allow the user to set a schedule of when the router is on and when it is off. For instance, is it really necessary to have all that extra EMF radiation pumping from your router in the evening when you and your family are all asleep? Did you know that most WiFi routers allow you to schedule off time? Simply go into your router’s settings from your browser and navigate to the section that allows you to set a schedule. If you need help, type “how do I turn my (insert brand here) router off at night”, and you should find directions on how to do so.
If you are unable to find directions on how to schedule your router to power off in the evening, you can always turn off your router entirely or use a plug in mechanical timer to set a schedule.
4 – Better Placement of Your WiFi Router
Have you ever considered moving where the WiFi router is located in your home? Try keeping it a safe distance away from places you and your family frequent the most. Such places may include your bedroom, your kitchen, or your living room. If you have an office or basement, perhaps place your router there.
5 – Invest in a WiFi Router Guard

To summarize, however, there are couple of router guard options you can purchase and each are relatively inexpensive. One option is the WiFi router guard cage. Another option comes in the form of a shielding pouch or bag.
Regarding the cage option, two options used frequently are:
Smart Meter Router Guard (link to Amazon.com) – This is the classic Faraday cage. Smart Meter claims this guard will block most of the EMF your router emits. It actually comes in two sizes as well. The small version is (12” x 9” x 3” inches) and the large version is (12 x 11 1/4″ x 5 1/4″ inches). The price of the small is reasonable. And it is large enough for most modems.
Faraday Defense Router Shield (link to Amazon.com) – This is a heavy-duty version of the Faraday cage. Interior dimensions are 3.5″ x 10.25″ x 12″, which, again, will fit most routers nicely. Faraday Defense claims that this unit provides 60 dB attenuation (or signal reduction), which translates to a 99.9% reduction. This model does run a bit pricier.
And regarding the EMF shielding bag option:
This WiFi Router Cover (link to Amazon.com) is a really good option. This WiFi cover effectively reduces harmful emissions from your router. Made from high-quality copper, nickel, and polyester fiber fabric, it’s certified to provide 99.999% protection against harmful radiation.
There are also some protective fabrics on the market today that can be used as a shielding pouch. You can also try an even simpler approach, using an upside-down mesh wastebasket to cover the router.
6 – Shungite for EMF Protection From WiFi Router Radiation

Basically, shungite is a rare material found only in a specific region of Russia. It contains a hollow carbon molecule called fullerenes, essentially a little carbon cage. In order to lessen the amount of EMF radiation being transmitted by the WiFi router and absorbed by you and your family, try placing some shungite near your WiFi router. They are rather stylish and will serve as a decent decorative piece while working hard to protect you and your family from WiFi Router Radiation at the same time. 8 – Use EMF Protection Stickers on WiFi Routers
We spoke of EMF protective stickers previously with cell phone use. You can read that article here. Below are two solid offerings for EMF protection stickers. Simply place these protective stickers on your WiFi router and reduce the amount of EMFs that protrude from your router.

In Conclusion
Without doubt, your WiFi router provides a convenience to you and your family. However, with this convenience comes an increased level of EMF radiation – EMF radiation that will be consumed by you and your family. Why not shut off the router in the evening time when nobody is using it? Why not shield your router with a WiFi router guard? Why not try one or two of the other approaches described above in order to reduce the amount of WiFi router radiation present in your home.
