Nowadays our children are on laptops either for school or play for relatively long stretches of time. After finally pausing their laptop use, many spend even more time staring at tv monitors and playing video games on their game consoles or cell phones. If we want to protect them from these habits, one option is to invest in or at least investigate EMF glasses for our children.
Hey, I am no different really. I have worked on my laptop for most of my adult life. It pays the bills. I have written an article previously on the topic of EMF glasses. You can read it here if you wish. This article is going to be focused on our children’s safety. I know I mentioned this before (and really kind of an obvious and unoriginal statement), but they are our future.
Blue Light
Blue light is what these glasses are designed to filter out. What is blue light? It is artificial light that impacts our ability to obtain a restful night’s sleep and also has been known to worsen our eye sight over a period of time. Blue light actually refers to the wavelengths of light that range between 400 and 495 mm and corresponds to the color blue on the visible light spectrum. As an example, the light projecting from the screen right now, as you read this article, may appear white or off-white in color, however, the light that is hitting your eyes is actually considered to have blue wavelengths.
Not all blue light is bad, however. Did you know that the sun and its light is the biggest source of blue light? Also, something called light therapy is a process used to manage seasonal affective disorder, also known as SAD. SAD is a form of depression which is associated to the changing of seasons. Symptoms of this condition will usually begin in the fall season and resume throughout the winter months. Physicians often treat this condition by introducing their patients to something called a light therapy box. This box sends out a considerable amount of blue light rays and gives off a bright light to mimic natural outdoor lighting.
Many manufactured sources of blue light, however, are not always good. This includes the blue light emitted by electronic devices such as laptops and cell phones. This also includes LED lights and energy-efficient fluorescent light bulbs. This is where many believe EMF glasses for our children can help greatly.
Negative Effects Blue Light Can Have on Your Child
Below is a list of 5 common and negative effects blue light can have on your children.
- Eye Strain. Your child may begin to experience digital eye strain because his or her eyes are working excessively hard to manage with blue light. All that time when your child is peering into the computer monitor, laptop screen or any other electronic device for that matter that releases considerable doses of blue light, his or her eyes may be subjected to digital eye strain.
- Blurred Vision. Because our natural eye filters are not altogether fit for blocking blue light, blurred vision may occur. Encouraging your child to take a break from excessive screen time is recommended. As a father of two, yes, I understand how this may go. But call me a bad guy for trying to protect my kids. Now get off your computer games and play outside, you crazy little loves of my life. Dinner will be ready in 20 minutes.
- Headaches and Migraine Headaches. A good deal of stress on the eyes can cause headaches, and frequent migraines from the excessive exposure to blue light is not uncommon.
- Dry Eyes. Yes, gazing at your computer screen for prolonged periods of time, with all the blue light that is involved, may cause dry eyes.
- The Disruption of Sleeping Habits. I have written about EMF and sleep a few times prior on this website. You can read my articles on EMF protection for the Bedroom, and EMF Radiation and Sleep for more. However, blue light does compromise the amount of melatonin our children produce. Have you ever had your child sneak a cell phone in bed with them? Blue light fools their brains into thinking that it is actually day-time, making it more difficult for them to fall asleep and lowering their overall sleep quality.
How Can We Protect Our Children From Blue Light?
Just like many of us slather sun tan lotion on our children when we head off to enjoy our summer activities, we should also protect them best we can from blue light. The obvious way to protect our children from blue light is to just turn off their screens – personal computers, laptop computers, tablets, cell phones, television. That solution, however, is not realistic for most of us. Whether it be during school hours or on their own time, our children will most likely find themselves on some sort of screen for a period of time. So here are some alternatives to try.
Reduce the Number of Screens Your Child Stares Into During the Day
I mentioned above turning off the screens in your child’s life. However, this may prove to be a difficult task. An easier approach may be to reduce the amount of time our children spend gazing into screens.
Utilize Filters Devised to Reduce Blue Light
Nowadays, many devices contain a means to sift out blue light. If your children use an iPhone or iPad there is actually a display and brightness setting that allows you to use a night shift setting. On many Android phones and tablets a similar display setting is featured and can be toggled on. There are also apps available to help filter out blue light. On a Windows 10 device, a similar setting can also be applied.
Utilize EMF Glasses for Children (or Blue Light Protection Glasses)
Companies like DefenderShield currently sell blue light glasses, and they offer EMF glasses for children as well. These glasses contain filters within their lenses that help block blue light. Your child can wear the glasses while watching television, doing school work on their laptop, browsing the web, or playing video games on their consoles. These glasses help reduce exposure to the blue light waves.
Blue Light Glasses
So how do blue light glasses work? Well, blue light glasses are said to have filters in their lenses designed to proficiently filter or block the transmission of blue light that is emitted from our children’s devices (obviously our devices as well).
DefenderShield, which I personally rate highly as a source for various EMF protection products, offer EMF glasses for children with both yellow lenses that filter approximately 50% of harmful blue light from digital screens (designed for daytime wear) and also orange lenses that are designed to filter out much more blue light (up to 99%) for nighttime use. DefenderShield’s EMF glasses for children come in a variety of color for frames as well. You can go directly to DefenderShield’s website to learn more. A link to DefenderShield’s EMF glasses for children can be found here. If your child is a little older, and you would like to browse a few different options of adult sized glasses, here is a link to view all options available from DefenderShield.
Conclusion
While DefenderShield is not the only option you have when searching for EMF glasses for children, they are a company that goes through the extra steps of thoroughly testing any product they bring to market, validating the product’s effectiveness. Whether you decide to go with the DefenderShield brand for your child, or perhaps a different option – even if you choose to forgo EMF glasses altogether – I sincerely hope this article was informative. EMFs are real and, although many devices that emit EMF radiation are becoming more and more essential in our day to day lives, we can still limit our exposure and our children’s exposure to EMFs with a little bit of know-how and some old-fashioned determination.
